![]() ![]() This causes a lot of friction, and the result is a not perfect running winch. Due to the concept of my transmission, I was forced to gear down the motor speed first, then travel all the way up into the crane, and gear up the speed again. It was a last minute decision to operate it motorized. Though, I´m not satisfied with the winch. It took me a lot of time figuring out the correct setting of the wheels and pulleys, but in the end it worked really smoothly at my preferred speed. What design feature are you happiest with, and what didn’t work out as well as you’d hoped? I am very happy about the elevator and how smooth it works. So it took until December 2020 until the instructions were ready. Due to family & job obligations, I was unable to work on it continuously. How long did it take you to design this MOC? I started with sorting the parts and making some concept studies in early April 2020. Originally, I didn't really want to do that. And since the finally selected Technic sets also contain a lot of gears and two motors, I got the idea to motorize as much functions as possible. After counting the red parts in a few Technic sets, it turned out that one needs at least three sets to get a reasonably red painted tower. And since I didn´t want to buy hundreds of red fences which I couldn´t use for anything else, it was obvious to me to design the whole thing as an alternate MOC. So I thought about how to get a relatively cheap LUT that looks as close as possible to the original. ![]() My first LUT MOC was completely without red parts, however I wasn't happy with the result. It was my wife who finally gave the 42009 to me as birthday present, not knowing what she was activating in me… -) -How did you get the idea of combining these 3 sets into this MOC? Did you see the sets first? Or the real life model? Since I bought the 21309 Saturn V, I thought about building a LUT for it. ![]() I returned to Lego in 2014, when a colleague of mine was very excited about his 42009 mobile crane. Who is behind Janotechnic? My name is Daniel and I work as a mechanical engineer for the automotive industry. Can you tell us something about yourself. Contents: Q&A The MOC The Build Conclusion From the photos, it looks to be a great model, and I can't wait to build it. And the 3rd was on my wish list, so I didn't mind needing to buy it. The MOC directly caught my eye, as it uses only parts from 3 donor sets ( 42055-1 Bucket Wheel Excavator, 42082-1 Rough Terrain Crane and 42098-1 Car Transporter), 2 of them already in my collection. I'll be reviewing a MOC today that builds this launch platform and LUT: The MOC-60088 - Launch Tower Mk I for Saturn V with Crawler by Janotechnic. The tower is used to load the fuel and bring the astronauts to the top. The launch platform is basically a very large crawler that moves the Saturn V out of the assembly hall, and onto the launch site. One of these designs even made it to 10,000 votes on LEGO Ideas, but didn't get approved for a set. One of these related designs is the launch platform the Saturn V stands on, and the LUT, Launch Umbilical Tower. And seeing how fast it sold out, and LEGO even made a re-release of it 3 years later, many others love this set as well.Īnd as we often see with a succesful sets, there will be set-related MOCs. I directly fell in love with the sheer size and design. My favorite of these (after the 8480-1 Technic Space Shuttle, but nothing can beat that beauty) must be the 21309-1 NASA Apollo Saturn V. Luckily, LEGO loves space travel as well, as we've seen many sets in the past.
